about courtney hart

licensed clinical social worker and board approved supervisor in Maryland

TLDR: I’m an AuDHD therapist with nearly 15 years of clinical practice and a lifetime of experience as a high-masking human.

I’ve been told by my clients I don’t hold space like a “regular therapist” who acts more like an NPC, sitting there just nodding along as if they were the only expert in the room, and endlessly going “mmhmm” or asking ‘How do you feel about that?’ every time there is a pause. Instead, my style tends to be more interactive and collaborative with work that is led by the goals YOU have for yourself instead of what the world thinks you should be doing.

*TLDR = “too long; didn’t read.”
**NPC = “non-playable character” in a game

About Me, The Therapist

I specialize in supporting high-masking ADHDers, Autistic folx, and AuDHD people, including PDAers, twice-exceptional people (identified or suspected to be gifted), and parents.

My main goal as a provider is to help clients process their experiences, understand more about their brain and nervous system, find ways to do the things they need and want to do, learn to advocate for their support needs, and find moments of contentment, or even joy, in a life that can feel overwhelming and exhausting.

After working in a variety of larger systems—including residential treatment, schools, and behavioral health hospitals—and then insurance-based outpatient mental health, I founded Healing Hart Wellness in 2018 to be able to provide therapy outside of traditional bureaucratic barriers, allowing for a small, client-focused caseload and more individualized services.

About Me, IRL

Outside of being a mental health professional, I have many roles, including wife, stepparent, and fur mom to two dogs and two cats.

I’m a serial project starter with an insatiable curiosity, often on several side quests at a time. Staying busy and off screens helps my brain work better, and I try to balance this by being outside with my dogs, hiking, or playing in the yard. Slowing down with writing, yoga, or meditation also helps me find calm amidst the busyness.

If you want to get me distracted—don’t worry, I’ll get us back on track quickly—just talk with me about your special interests or some of mine: animals, space exploration, music, cozy and collaborative games, advancing tech, and understanding the human experience.

More About My Background

My foundational training as a social worker focused on understanding how a person exists in, interacts with, and responds to their environment; identifying strengths; understanding intersecting identities; and exploring supports rather than assuming the person must be ‘broken’ or that there are inherent defects or flaws they must fix to improve their life.
